Just outside the town of Exira, on Hwy. 71 is the plow in the tree. It is the old single blade plow that would have been pulled by a horse or ox. It sticks out of the middle of a giant oak tree in a small roadside park. The story goes that the plow was leaned against a small sapling when the young farmer went off to fight for the Union in the Civil War. Killed in the war, he never returned and the sapling grew into the mighty oak that still surrounds the metal parts of the plow.
